EAA Lab Projects — Radio Frequency Identification

Supply Chain Management becomes more precise in the next few years. This especially affects the detection, monitoring and tracking of products during whole industrial processes, e.g. by using Radio Frequency Identification (RFID).

Near Field Communication (NFC) is a new technology used to improve existing mechanisms and to create completely new application scenarios in the supply chain. With the help of RFID technology the detection, monitoring and tracking of products becomes more fine-grain and can be processed simultaneously. In the EAA Lab complete new application scenarios for this innovative technique are designed, evaluated and can be tested and finally implemented.

Simultaneous processing of huge amounts of data in very short periods, i.e. often only a few seconds, results in completely new demands on the system of involved enterprise applications. The amount of processed data increases tremendously and the minimum time to process depends directly on the processing throughput of the system of involved enterprise applications.

The EAA Lab assists developments in the area of NFC with huge work loads by evaluating existing systems and analyzing possible improvements. With the help of individual solutions special application scenarios are implemented and improvements in process huge amounts of mass data are measured.

In cooperation with our partners noFilis and SAP the EAA Lab provides EAA/RFID Lab. In this part of the EAA Lab modern technologies are composed to build complete new application scenarios.

Goals of the lab

In a controlled environment students can experiment with the RFID technology. Simulation of RFID supported processes is possible as well as implementing prototype applications in an existing installation.

Further details can be found in our presentation at SAPPHIRE 2009, Orlando.

Setup of the Lab

The lab is currently setup as following. Further hard- and software components will be added in the near future.
