Hasso Plattner is giving a series of lectures on enterprise software infrastructure for students mastering in computer science at the HPI. These lectures include recurring themes demonstrating the importance of each of the topics as well as the relationship between theory and its implementation in the real world. Students will study the big picture of software from an engineering point of view and receive an introduction into the life cycle of software and other related issues. Prof. Plattner's main goal is to teach computer science not “as usual", but rather to address challenges of the real world and present solutions with which we approach them today. In each lecture, he will focus on a typical challenge as a way to discuss the subject matter. For instance, one challenge for Business Intelligence is performance. How does BI help making reporting faster? Is it possible to design a real-time data warehouse built on-top of the current transactional data without damaging the performance of the transactional system?
